Destin
Destin and 30A deliver the Gulf Coast at its most beautiful - sugar-white sand, emerald-green water, great seafood, and a pace that lets everyone actually decompress.
Why Destin and 30A for a Bach Trip
The Destin and 30A stretch of the Florida panhandle delivers something most US bach destinations cannot: emerald green Gulf water, sugar-white sand, and a beach culture that feels Caribbean instead of Floridian. The water genuinely looks like a postcard. The sunsets are reliable. The beach houses are designed for groups. Crab Island is the daytime party scene, a half-mile shallow sandbar where boats pull up and turn into a floating bar. It is the bach trip for crews who want a beach vacation more than a city weekend.
The trade-off is that 30A is upscale and not cheap. Beach houses for ten are $4,000 to $8,000 a week in season. Restaurants charge resort prices. The drive from any major airport is at least 90 minutes. But for the right group (smaller, beach-focused, willing to cook in), it is one of the best beach bach trips in the country.
Where to Base Your Group
Destin proper is the larger town with more amenities and easier access to Crab Island. Stay near Harborwalk Village or in a beachfront condo at Henderson Park. 30A refers to the scenic highway running through Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Watercolor, Grayton Beach, and Alys Beach; each town has a distinct feel (Seaside is the most touristy, Rosemary the most upscale, Grayton the most casual). For groups, beachfront houses in Watercolor or Watersound work best; expect $5,000 to $12,000 per week. Condos at Sandestin or 30avenue are budget options.
Skip Panama City Beach (sub-30A) unless you want spring break energy; it is a different vibe entirely.
When to Go (and When to Avoid)
Best months: April, May, September, October. Water is warm, weather is reliable, crowds are manageable. Summer (June through August) is peak season, peak prices, peak crowds. Winter (December through February) is mild but the water is too cold for swimming. Avoid Spring Break (March, especially the second and third weeks) and the Fourth of July week; lodging triples and the beaches are packed.
The Day Scene
Crab Island is the main event. Rent a pontoon boat for the day (Just Chute Me, Boogies Watersports, Crab Island Cantina) and anchor at the sandbar; the floating bars and food vendors make it a self-contained scene. Half-day trips run $400 to $800 per boat. For something quieter, paddleboard or kayak rentals at the state parks (Henderson Beach, Topsail Hill). Snorkel boat tours to Destin Jetties for fish and the occasional dolphin. Sunset sailing out of Destin Harbor is the chill option. Beach time is the default; the sand at Grayton Beach State Park is the best.
The Night Scene
Nightlife here is more dinner-and-drinks than club-and-dance. Harborwalk Village has the most bar density: AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar, McGuire's Irish Pub of Destin, Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House. The Bay (Bayside) bars are the boat-up option. In 30A proper, The Red Bar in Grayton is the iconic dive (closes around midnight). Bud and Alley's in Seaside has rooftop sunsets. AJ's Oyster Shanty in Rosemary has a more grown-up scene. After 11 PM, the energy moves back to the beach house deck.
Food and Drink Worth Planning Around
Seafood is the move. Top picks: Boshamps, Brotula's, The Edge Seafood Restaurant. Higher-end dinner: Restaurant Paradis, Borago, FOOW (Fish Out of Water). Brunch: Bud and Alley's, Cafe Thirty-A, Pickle's Snack Station. Casual: McGuire's for Irish pub, Stinky's Fish Camp for the dive-bar oyster experience. For groups in beach houses, hire a private chef one night; the price is comparable to a sit-down dinner and dramatically more relaxed. Catering Caboose and 30A Private Chef are the local options.
Pro Tips
Rent the beach house for at least four nights; the drive in and out makes a three-day trip feel like nothing. Pre-buy beach setup (chairs, umbrella) through your rental's concierge or services like 30A Beach Service; carrying it yourself in summer heat is rough. Book Crab Island pontoons two weeks out for weekends. Bring cash for the beach vendors. The Walton County alcohol laws are stricter than Destin proper; on 30A, you cannot drink on the beach. And the Fourth of July fireworks visible from any 30A beach are spectacular and free.

A typical Destin weekend, based on what actually works for bach groups.
Beach House, Emerald Water, Baytowne
Check in to your beach house - Destin and 30A have some of the best group rentals in the Southeast. Straight to the beach: the Gulf water here is genuinely turquoise and warm. Afternoon on the water with paddleboard rentals and floats. Sunset cocktails on the deck. Dinner at HarborWalk Village, then Baytowne Wharf for drinks and dancing.
Deep Sea Fishing or Golf, Then 30A Sunset
Half-day deep sea fishing charter out of Destin Harbor in the morning - book ahead, boats fill up fast. Back to the beach in the afternoon for one last swim session. 18 holes at Kelly Plantation is the move if the group prefers golf. Sunset dinner at Bud & Alley's in Seaside: one of the best tables in the Florida Panhandle.
Last Morning on the Gulf
One more hour on the beach before checkout - non-negotiable. Brunch at The Perfect Pig in Grayton Beach. The drive home along 30A past the pastel beach towns is the perfect ending. Destin is the overlooked gem of the bachelor party circuit.
