Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information RipTrip (“we”, “us”) collects when you use riptrip.co, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We aim to use plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at privacy@riptrip.co.

Information we collect

We keep what we collect to a minimum. In practice:

• Email addresses you provide when you save or share an itinerary, subscribe to the newsletter, or create a group vote. We do not collect emails silently.
• Trip and poll data you build yourself, such as destinations, activities, lodging choices, and dates on your saved itineraries and polls.
• Review content you submit, if you leave a star rating or written review on an activity or lodging.
• Automatic data common to most websites: your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring URL, and approximate geographic location derived from your IP. This is used for analytics and security.
• Cookies and similar technologies set by us and by third parties, described below.

We do not knowingly collect real names, phone numbers, payment information, or any sensitive categories of data.

How we use your information

• To save and retrieve the trips you build and share.
• To send you the share link, planning checklist, and occasional product updates if you subscribe.
• To show reviews you submit to other users, alongside your submitted star rating.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
• To serve and measure advertising, as described in the next section.
• To detect abuse, prevent spam, and keep the service secure.

Cookies, advertising, and tracking

RipTrip uses Google AdSense to serve ads on destination and blog pages. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to measure ad performance and, for users outside of regions with strict consent laws, to serve personalized ads. Third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, a consent banner appears on first visit asking for permission to use personalization cookies for advertising. You can change this choice at any time by clearing your cookies for riptrip.co.

For analytics, we use PostHog to understand page views and user flows. PostHog cookies do not identify you personally and we do not use PostHog data for advertising.

Third-party services we rely on

• Supabase hosts the database that stores your saved trips and reviews.
• Vercel serves the website and processes server logs.
• Resend delivers our email (welcome emails, share links, digests).
• PostHog measures product analytics.
• Google AdSense serves the display ads you see on content pages.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy and processes data under contract with us. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Affiliate links

Many booking links on RipTrip are affiliate links, meaning that if you click through and book a stay, tour, or activity, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate partners include Viator, VRBO, Booking.com, GetYourGuide, and others. Clicking an affiliate link does not share personal information with us about your booking beyond whether the click occurred.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

• Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Deletion — ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
• Opt-out of marketing — at any time, via the unsubscribe link in any email or at riptrip.co/unsubscribe.
• Opt-out of ad personalization — via the consent banner or the Google Ads Settings link above.

California residents have additional rights under CCPA, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under CCPA.

Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland have rights under GDPR and UK GDPR. The legal bases we rely on are your consent (for marketing emails and ad personalization), legitimate interest (for analytics and security), and contract performance (to provide the service you signed up for).

Children’s privacy

RipTrip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted in the website footer or via email if you subscribe.
