San Antonio
San Antonio has the River Walk, which means your entire bar crawl is outside along a river lined with lights and live music. The Pearl District has the best restaurants in Texas outside of Austin, the margaritas are enormous, and the city has a warmth that big-city bachelor destinations can never quite manufacture. It also helps that everything costs half what it does in Austin.
Why San Antonio for a Bach Trip
San Antonio is the bach trip for groups who want Texas warmth, the River Walk's miles of waterfront restaurants and bars, and prices that are dramatically cheaper than Austin. The downtown is anchored by the River Walk (a network of pedestrian paths along the San Antonio River with 200 plus restaurants and bars), the Pearl District (a converted brewery turned into a foodie neighborhood), and the historic missions including the Alamo. The city is more authentic-Texas than Austin, less polished, and more affordable.
The bachelorette and bachelor circuits both work here. River barges with cocktails, Pearl District brunches, and a real Tex-Mex food scene make for a weekend with substance. The trade-off is that San Antonio is geographically spread out; pick a base and stay near it.
Where to Base Your Group
Stay on or near the River Walk. The Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk and the Marriott Rivercenter both have direct River Walk access. The Pearl District is the more upscale alternative with boutique hotels (Hotel Emma is the splurge); 10 minute drive to River Walk. For groups, downtown short-term rentals and the King William historic district are options; expect $300 to $700 per night for a six-person property.
Skip suburbs (Stone Oak, Alamo Ranch); the commute kills the weekend.
When to Go (and When to Avoid)
Best months: October through April. Summer is brutally hot and humid. Spring (March, April) is gorgeous but Fiesta San Antonio in late April fills the city. Fall through early winter is the sweet spot. Avoid Fiesta week (10 days in late April), the Alamo Bowl game weekend (late December), and major Spurs playoff games; lodging gets tight.
The Day Scene
River Walk barge tour ($15 per person, 35 minutes) is the obligatory first activity. The Alamo is across the street and is a 45-minute self-guided visit. The four other historic missions (Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, Espada) are accessible via the Mission Reach River Walk extension; bike or rideshare. The Pearl District for a long brunch and shopping. Natural Bridge Caverns (35 minutes north) for a 75-minute tour into massive limestone caves; the entry-level cave tour is $30 per person. SeaWorld San Antonio if your group wants a theme park day.
The Night Scene
River Walk has 50+ bars and restaurants within a mile. Start at Coyote Cafe Tequila Bar or Sushi Zushi for a downtown vibe. Howl at the Moon and Iron Cactus are the dance and live-music options. The St. Anthony Hotel rooftop is the upscale-cocktail play. The Pearl District has Hotel Emma's Sternewirth Bar (one of the most beautiful bars in Texas), Cured Charcuterie Bar, and Southerleigh Brewery. For a bachelorette twist, the Bonham Exchange is the legendary gay club and dance floor; great drag shows on weekends.
Food and Drink Worth Planning Around
Tex-Mex is the must-do. Top picks: Mi Tierra Cafe (24/7 in Market Square, the iconic San Antonio breakfast), Rosario's, Pete's Tako House. Higher-end Mexican: Mixtli (12-course tasting menu, book three weeks out), Cured at Pearl. Texas BBQ: 2M Smokehouse, The Granary 'Cue and Brew. Brunch: Bird Bakery, Jacala. The Pearl District has multiple options and a Saturday farmers market that is worth a morning. For a private dinner, Chela's Charcuterie or San Antonio Catering both do bach setups.
Pro Tips
Book a River Walk-facing hotel room; the difference between street-side and river-side is significant. Avoid driving downtown; one-way streets and underground parking make it frustrating. The mission trail bike rental from B-cycle is a solid morning. Mi Tierra has a 90-minute wait on weekend mornings; eat there at 7 AM or 11 PM. The Pearl District Saturday morning farmers market doubles as a coffee-and-pastry crawl. And do not skip the Alamo because everyone says it is small; the historical context is genuinely interesting.

A typical San Antonio weekend, based on what actually works for bach groups.
Arrive, River Walk, Late Night Pearl District
Check in and walk straight to the River Walk. The bar crawl here is entirely outdoors along a river lit with string lights and live music - there is no other bar strip in America quite like it. Dinner at Cured or La Gloria at the Pearl. The Pearl District is the best restaurant neighborhood in Texas outside Austin. Keep going until the group is done, which may be a while.
Historic Sites, Then Tex-Mex and Margaritas
The Alamo is genuinely interesting and takes less than an hour - do it. Mission San Jose is even better if the group has energy. Afternoon at The Friendly Spot Ice House, which is exactly what an ideal Texas bar looks like. Night two: enormous margaritas at Rosario's or El Mirador on South Alamo, then back toward the River Walk.
Mi Tierra and Flights
Breakfast at Mi Tierra in Market Square - it has been open 24 hours since 1941 and the huevos rancheros are the correct choice. Walk through the Alamo Quarter one more time. San Antonio is the most underrated large city for bachelor parties in the country.
