Aspen bachelor bachelorette party

Aspen

Aspen is where luxury and adventure collide - world-class ski runs, celebrity spotting, $50 cocktails, and après-ski scenes that last until 2am every night of the week.

Why Aspen for a Bach Trip

Aspen is the high-end mountain bach trip. World-class skiing on four mountains, a downtown that punches above its weight on food and shopping, apres-ski culture that runs from 3 PM until well past midnight, and the kind of celebrity-spotting and luxury-resort vibe that justifies the price tag. The bachelorette circuit here is smaller and more curated than Breckenridge or Park City; it tends toward groups who specifically want the Aspen tier of experience and have the budget to match.

The right group is one that wants ski-or-summer luxury without compromise. The wrong group is one looking for value; Aspen is the most expensive ski town in the US and lodging in season starts at $700 per night per room.

Where to Base Your Group

Downtown Aspen is the only base. Walking distance to gondolas, restaurants, and bars. Hotels: The Little Nell (slope-side), The St. Regis, Hotel Jerome (historic boutique), W Aspen. For groups, Limelight Hotel and Aspen Meadows Resort have suite options. Larger groups should rent a Snowmass mountain home (15 minutes from Aspen) for the lower price per bed; expect $2,000 to $8,000 per night for a chalet sleeping 10 to 16.

When to Go (and When to Avoid)

Two seasons: ski (December through April, peaks at Christmas and President's Week) and summer (June through August, hiking, biking, music festivals). Mud season (May, October, November) is dead. Avoid the X Games week (late January) and Aspen Music Festival peaks (July) unless you are specifically going for them.

The Day Scene

Winter: ski the four mountains (Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Highlands, Buttermilk). Snowmass is the family-friendly option with most terrain. Aspen Mountain is the steepest and feeds directly into downtown. Lift tickets are $200 plus per day; a multi-day pass is the move. Summer: hike the Maroon Bells (one of the most photographed mountains in the country), the Crater Lake trail (3.5 miles round trip), or Conundrum Hot Springs for the natural backcountry hot spring (8.5 miles each way, advanced). Mountain biking on the Snowmass single-track. Spa days at the Remede Spa or Auberge are luxury-tier.

The Night Scene

Apres-ski starts on the slopes at Cloud Nine (the chairlift to chairlift after-ski party), then transitions downtown. The J-Bar at Hotel Jerome is the historic classic. The Living Room at The Little Nell for cocktails. For dancing, Bootsy Bellows is the celebrity-spot pop-in; Belly Up has live music. Restaurants double as nightlife in Aspen; dinners run two to three hours and rooftops/lounges at Element 47 and Caribou Club extend into late night.

Food and Drink Worth Planning Around

Element 47 (Hotel Jerome) and Cache Cache are the destination dinners; book three weeks out. Matsuhisa for sushi, Casa Tua for Italian. The White House Tavern is the casual lunch spot. For brunch, Pyramid Bistro or Steakhouse 316. Pinions in Snowmass is the under-the-radar splurge. Pre-order groceries to your rental through Aspen Mountain Express; market prices in Aspen are punishing.

Pro Tips

Book all major restaurants three weeks out for ski season. Hire a private driver for the weekend; rental cars are a hassle and parking downtown is non-existent. The High Alpine restaurant on the mountain is the on-piste lunch worth booking. Snowmass is 15 minutes from downtown Aspen via free shuttle; do not let lodging there scare you off if it is dramatically cheaper. And the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (ASE) has limited flights; flying into Eagle (EGE, 70 minutes by car) or Denver (220 miles, four hours) often saves money.
