What The Nations Actually Is
The Nations sits in West Nashville, roughly ten minutes northwest of downtown off Charlotte Avenue. It was an industrial stretch until about a decade ago, and the street grid still gives it away with numbered avenues running north.
What changed is that a wave of breweries, taprooms, and chef-driven restaurants moved into the old warehouses. The result is a walkable pocket around 51st Avenue North and Centennial Boulevard that feels like a neighborhood rather than a tourist district.
For a bachelorette group, the appeal is simple. You can get a table without a two-hour wait, your drinks cost what drinks should cost, and nobody is going to hand your bride a novelty sash.
Where to Drink
Fat Bottom Brewing
Best for: Afternoon anchor stop | Address: 800 44th Ave N
Fat Bottom started in East Nashville in 2012 and moved into a 33,000 square foot facility here, which means the beer garden is genuinely large enough for a group of fifteen to spread out. The outdoor patio is the reason to come.
There is a full kitchen, so this works as a late lunch too. The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and the Classic Smashburger are the two things the kitchen is known for.
Group note: No reservation needed for the beer garden on a weekday afternoon. Saturdays after 2pm get busy.
51 North Taproom
Best for: The group that cannot agree on one drink | Address: 704 51st Ave N
Thirty rotating taps plus a craft cocktail list covers everybody, which is the whole point when half your group drinks IPAs and half drinks espresso martinis. It comes from the owners of 12 South Taproom and Grill, so the food is better than a taproom needs to be.
The vibe is neighborhood-casual. Nobody is dressed up.
Group note: This is the best first stop of the night. Easy to get a big table before 7pm.
Nations Bar and Grill
Best for: Late in the night when you want a dive | Address: In the heart of the neighborhood
This is the unpretentious one. Cheap drinks, a pool table energy, and the kind of bar where the bartender remembers your order on round two.
It is where the night ends if you are not going back downtown.
Group note: Cash and a small group move faster here than a party of eighteen.
Maggie's Place
Best for: Dogs, daylight, and cheap rounds | Address: 905 51st Ave N
The draw is a large dog-friendly patio and prices that are noticeably lower than anything downtown. It is a straightforward neighborhood bar and restaurant, which after two days on Lower Broadway can feel like a spa.
Group note: Good for the recovery afternoon on day three.
Where to Eat
Nicky's Coal Fired
Best for: The one real dinner of the weekend | Address: 5026 Centennial Blvd | Price: Moderate
This is the reason a lot of people drive to The Nations in the first place. Coal-fired pizza, handmade pasta, and a room that photographs well without trying to.
Order this: The burrata with pomodoro, grana padano, and coal-fired focaccia at $16, split across the table.
Money move: The Five and Ten Happy Hour runs 5pm to 6pm with $5 marinated olives, $5 garlic bread, and $5 focaccia meatball sliders. There is also a $10 Tuesday special. If your group arrives Thursday, an early Friday happy hour dinner here costs a fraction of a Broadway dinner.
Group note: Book this one on OpenTable at least two weeks out for a Friday or Saturday. Walk-in with twelve people is not happening.
Frothy Monkey
Best for: Morning-after breakfast for the whole group | Address: 1400 51st Ave N, inside Stocking 51
The Nations location is over 3,500 square feet with about 150 seats, which is the single most useful fact in this guide. Most Nashville brunch spots cannot seat fourteen people without an hour wait, and this one can.
It is an all-day cafe, so it works for coffee at 9am and a real lunch at 1pm.
Group note: There is a private event space that holds roughly 40 guests. If you want a hosted brunch rather than a scramble for tables, this is the easiest booking in West Nashville.
The Centennial
Best for: A dive bar with actual food | Address: 5115 Centennial Blvd
Casual eats, no attitude, and a good landing spot between a brewery afternoon and a real dinner. Do not overthink it.
How to Plan a Nations Night
- The Nations is roughly ten minutes from downtown by rideshare, usually $12 to $18 each way. Split across a group that is a rounding error.
- Do not try to combine Broadway and The Nations in the same night. Pick one. The whole value of The Nations is that it is not Broadway.
- Best sequence for a group of ten to fifteen: 51 North Taproom at 5pm, Fat Bottom beer garden at 6:30pm, Nicky's Coal Fired at 8pm, Nations Bar and Grill after.
- Book Nicky's two weeks out. Everything else on this list takes walk-ins.
- Saturday afternoon in the beer garden is the single best group photo you will get all weekend, and it costs the price of a round.
- Stocking 51 is the mixed-use building that houses Frothy Monkey, so use that as your morning meeting point. It is easy to find and there is parking.
- If you are staying in a rental, look at 37209 addresses. You will pay meaningfully less than a downtown or Gulch rental and you are still ten minutes from everything.
