Why South Beach for a Bach
South Beach (or SoBe) is the postcard. Pastel Art Deco hotels, a beach with sand the color of vanilla ice cream, and a club scene that runs from midnight to 7 a.m. on weekends.
It is the most concentrated bach experience in Miami. Everything you need is between Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, and Washington Avenue, which is roughly a 15-block walkable strip.
Where to Stay
Stay between 5th Street and 21st Street to be in the heart of the action. The Webster, 1 Hotel South Beach, and Faena are the three tiers from $400 to $1,500 per night.
If your budget is tighter, Kimpton Surfcomber on Collins Avenue gets you a beachfront pool deck for around $300 in the off-season.
Best Restaurants in South Beach
Hasalon
Best for: The bridal dinner that turns into a party | Price: $90 per person minimum spend, expect $150 with drinks
Hasalon is the original clubstaurant. The Israeli menu is genuinely excellent for the first hour, and at exactly 9 p.m. the lights drop, the music goes to 11, and your table becomes the dance floor.
Order this: The hot bread with za atar at $18, the lamb kebab at $52.
"Best dinner of our trip. Show up hungry, leave drunk and dancing on your chair." Reddit
Macchialina
Best for: A grown-up Italian dinner before the club | Price: $80 to $100 per person
If you need one calm dinner where you can actually hear each other, Macchialina is South Beach quiet hero. Family-style pastas and a no-frills wine list.
Order this: The cacio e pepe at $28, the meatballs at $26.
Prime 112
Best for: Old-school Miami steakhouse, celebrity-spotting | Price: $$$$, expect $200 per person
Prime 112 is the steakhouse where the bride wears the white dress and someone famous is at the next table. Reservations open exactly 30 days out and 8 p.m. Saturday slots get scooped in 90 seconds.
Order this: The bone-in ribeye at $98, the Kobe sliders at $42.
Big Pink
Best for: The hangover brunch | Price: $20 to $30 per person
Big Pink is open until 5 a.m. on weekends and reopens for breakfast at 8. Comfort food in retro pink booths.
Order this: The TV dinner at $19, the pancakes at $14.
"Open late, open early, and the perfect cure for a 3 a.m. LIV exit." Google Review
La Sandwicherie
Best for: 4 a.m. fuel | Price: $12 sandwiches
French sandwiches with a vinaigrette that has a cult following. Open until 5 a.m. and worth the line.
The Clubs
LIV at the Fontainebleau
LIV is the temple. Thursday and Saturday are the headline nights, the door is brutal, and bottle service is essentially the only way in for a group of 8 plus. Tables start at $1,500 plus $1,000 minimum spend, so budget around $400 per person if you split it 8 ways.
If you skip bottle service, line up by 11 p.m. and dress like the photo on the website.
Basement Miami at the EDITION
Basement combines a club, a bowling alley, and an ice rink. It is the most fun no-pressure night in South Beach. Cover is $30 to $50 and you can rent a bowling lane for the early hours.
Story
Story is the EDM-heavy sister of LIV down on Collins. Saturday is the night and tables start at $2,000.
The Beach Day
Do not skip the actual beach. Book a day pass at Nikki Beach for $50 to $100 per person plus food and drink minimums. Cabanas for groups of 8 to 12 run $800 to $1,500 and include service, towels, and the famous teepees.
For a low-key option, set up on the public beach at 5th Street with rented chairs and an umbrella from Boucher Brothers at $30 per setup.
Planning Tips
- Make every dinner reservation a month out. South Beach books up faster than you think.
- The Uber surge between South Beach and the Fontainebleau hits 3x on Saturday nights. Stay close to your last stop or pre-book black car service.
- Friday is locals night, Saturday is the show, Sunday is sleepy. Plan the bride biggest dinner for Friday and the biggest party for Saturday.
- Tipping is brutal in Miami. Add 22 to 25 percent on everything and check that gratuity is not already included.
