Why Scottsdale for a Bachelor Party
Scottsdale is the undisputed king of bachelor party destinations in the Southwest. Golf in the morning, resort pool parties in the afternoon, and one of the best bar crawls in the country at night in Old Town. The whole thing is designed for groups of guys who want to do it right.
The weather from October through April is perfect. Summers work too if your group can handle the heat and sticks to pools and nightlife. Plan 3 nights minimum. Here is how to spend them.
Day 1: Arrive and Hit Old Town
Afternoon: Check In and Settle
Fly in Thursday or Friday afternoon and head straight to your rental or hotel. For bachelor groups, a house with a pool in the McCormick Ranch or Gainey Ranch neighborhoods gives you the most flexibility. Resorts like the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale or Fairmont Scottsdale Princess work great if your group prefers a hotel pool scene.
Spend the afternoon at the pool. Get everyone in the same headspace before the real weekend starts.
Evening: Dinner Then Old Town
Start your first night at Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse. It is the move for bachelor dinners in Scottsdale -- upscale, lively, and the bone-in ribeye ($68) is the kind of steak you remember. Make a reservation at least two weeks out.
After dinner, walk to Old Town for a bar crawl. The stretch between 5th Ave and Saddlebag Trail has more bars per block than almost anywhere in the country. Suggested progression:
- Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row -- Start here. Self-pour beer taps, live country music, big outdoor space. Great energy to open the night.
- El Hefe -- Mexican street food and frozen drinks. Loud, fun, and packed with groups.
- Riot House -- Close the night here. Top DJs, bottle service, and one of the best production nightclubs in the city.
Day 2: Golf and Pool Party
Morning: Tee Time
Scottsdale has over 200 golf courses and several legendary ones within a short drive. Book tee times at Grayhawk Golf Club (Talon Course is the best bang for the money at $85-$120) or splurge on TPC Scottsdale, which hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Morning rounds are cooler and more scenic.
Cart girl service, post-round beers at the clubhouse, and a 7am tee time so you finish before noon. That is the formula.
Afternoon: Resort Pool Party
The Scottsdale resort pool scene is genuinely one of the best in the world. Venues like Maya Day and Nightclub, Talking Stick Resort, and the W Scottsdale run dayclub-style pool parties on weekends with DJs and bottle service. Book a cabana in advance -- walk-in rates for groups are painful.
If your group prefers a more mellow vibe, the pools at most resort hotels rent cabanas to non-guests. The Hyatt Scottsdale has one of the nicest.
Evening: Dinner and More Old Town
Head back to clean up, then grab dinner at Steak 44 for a slightly more casual take than Mastro's -- still exceptional, with a great cocktail program and a more relaxed dress code. The bone-in filet ($62) is the best thing on the menu.
Return to Old Town for round two. Bottled Blonde is the nightclub equivalent of a house party -- outdoor dancefloor, good music, and one of the more accessible door policies for groups. Pairs well with a nightcap at the Mint Scottsdale.
Day 3: Desert Adventure or Recovery
Morning: Outdoor Activity
Day 3 is a choose-your-own-adventure. Active groups should book a Desert Dog Off-Road ATV tour through the Sonoran Desert. It runs about 2 hours and covers scenery you cannot see any other way. Hot-air balloon rides at sunrise are another option if you can get the group up early enough.
For groups who partied hard on Day 2, a recovery brunch at Scramble in Old Town followed by pool time back at the house is a perfectly acceptable use of Sunday morning.
Afternoon: Wrap Up
Most flights out of Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) leave in the late afternoon or evening on Sunday. Grab lunch, take one last pool hang, and head to the airport.
