Why Rainey Street for a Bachelorette

Rainey Street is a row of renovated 1880s craftsman bungalows turned into bars, food trucks, and patios. It is what Austin people send you to when you say "we do not want to do Sixth Street."

Everything is walkable, most spots have outdoor space, and bachelorette groups are assumed. Nobody on Rainey is going to side-eye a sash.

Where to Start

Lustre Pearl

Best for: The Rainey Street starting pistol | Price: $$

This is the bar that kicked off the whole Rainey Street scene. Big backyard, a tree strung with lights, food trucks parked out front, and a crowd that skews 25 to 35. Start here at 3pm, grab a table in the backyard, and anchor your group.

Order this: A pitcher of frozen margaritas to split, around $35

"Had our bride''s crown knocked off twice and nobody cared. Perfect energy for a bachelorette kickoff." Google Review

Container Bar

Best for: The Instagram shot | Price: $$

A multi-level bar built from stacked shipping containers. The upstairs deck is the move for golden hour. Get there by 5:30pm to beat the line.

Order this: Ranch water, $12

Mid-Crawl Bars

Tipsy Alchemist

Best for: Cocktails that weigh three pounds | Price: $$$

This is your shareable drink stop. The smoking cauldron is a shared bowl of punch that fits 6 to 8 straws. Worth the $85. Reserve a booth in advance, it is the only way.

Order this: Smoking Cauldron for the table, $85, or a Smoking Dragon for two, $28

"The giant smoking cocktail showed up and our entire bar stopped to look. Bride was thrilled." Reddit

Icenhauer''s

Best for: The dance floor and the porch | Price: $$

Icenhauer''s is the most packed bar on Rainey every weekend. Live music inside, wraparound porch outside, and a crowd that actually dances. Your group will stay longer than planned.

Order this: House margarita, $13

Unbarlievable

Best for: Fishbowls and circus energy | Price: $$

The ceiling is hung with circus decor and the drinks come in full fishbowls. It is ridiculous and your group will love it.

Order this: Fishbowl cocktail for the table, $50

Bungalow

Best for: Late-night dance floor | Price: $$

Bungalow sits right next to Container Bar and has a huge patio plus a packed dance floor inside. Good for the 10pm to midnight window.

Order this: Frozen rose, $13

Eat Mid-Crawl

Bangers Sausage House

Best for: Chili cheese fries before round four | Price: $

Bangers is a massive beer garden with 200 taps and house-made sausages. This is where you stop to eat and reset. The chili cheese fries are $12 and your bride will thank you.

Order this: Chili cheese fries, $12, and a beer flight, $16

Via 313

Best for: Detroit-style pizza after the bars | Price: $

The Rainey Street Via 313 stays open late and the Cadillac pie is the play. Eat it on the patio and call an Uber home.

Order this: Cadillac pizza, $21, split between 3 people

Planning Tips

  • Rainey Street bars fill up by 7pm on Saturdays. Arrive by 5pm for any bar with a patio.
  • Call Tipsy Alchemist a week in advance to reserve a booth for your group.
  • Tip well at your first bar. Austin bartenders are generous to big groups who take care of them early.
  • Rainey is less than 10 minutes by Uber from most downtown hotels. Do not drive, parking is a nightmare.
  • Food trucks on Rainey run until 1am. Cash is appreciated but most take cards.
