Instagram-Worthy Photo Locations in Sedona for Bachelorette Parties

Why Sedona for Photos

Sedona has some of the most naturally photogenic landscapes in America. The red rocks glow at sunrise and sunset, the desert light is golden and forgiving, and almost every direction you look is a postcard-worthy moment. Your crew will leave with hundreds of stunning photos without even trying. Come prepared with comfortable walking shoes and backup phone batteries.

The Best Photo Locations

Schnebly Hill Vista

Best time: Sunset, 30 minutes before dusk

Schnebly Hill Vista is the most iconic overlook in Sedona. From this point, you see the Cathedral, Courthouse Butte, and layers of red rock formations stretching to the horizon. The parking area is large and accessible, and you can walk right up to the overlook. Wear colors that contrast with the rocks: white, black, navy, or jewel tones photograph beautifully against the red.

Pro tip: Arrive 45 minutes before sunset to grab a good spot and watch the light change. The temperature drops fast once the sun sets, so bring a light jacket for your crew.

Merry Go Round Overlook

Best time: Golden hour (sunrise or sunset)

Merry Go Round is near Schnebly Hill but receives fewer crowds. The vista is stunning, offering a slightly different angle on Cathedral Rock and the surrounding landscape. This is where you will find quieter moments for intimate group photos without tourist crowds in the background.

Pro tip: The parking area is smaller and sometimes fills up at peak times. Arrive early or consider going at sunrise instead of sunset to avoid the rush.

West Fork Trail

Best time: Any time, but especially in fall

West Fork Trail is one of the most lush, Instagrammable hikes near Sedona. The trail follows Oak Creek through a fairytale forest of ponderosa pines and seasonal foliage. In fall, the colors are incredible. The hike is moderate (about 6 miles round trip) and mostly flat, making it doable for a group in party attire if you wear comfortable shoes.

Order this: Wear layers. The canyon is cool and shaded, even in summer.

Cathedral Rock

Best time: Sunset

Cathedral Rock is the most recognizable rock formation in Sedona. The hiking trail to the top is short (about 1.2 miles round trip) but steep and rocky. Once you reach the summit, you have 360-degree views of Sedona and the surrounding landscape. The rocks are red, the light is golden, and your group will feel on top of the world.

Pro tip: Wear hiking boots or very sturdy sneakers. The rock is uneven and slippery. If your crew is not up for the hike, you can photograph Cathedral Rock from nearby pull-offs without climbing.

Amitabha Stupa Peace Park

Best time: Early morning or late afternoon

Amitabha Stupa is a serene, lesser-known gem about 10 minutes from Uptown Sedona. It is a 78-foot white stupa (Buddhist shrine) sitting in the middle of the desert. The contrast of the white stupa against the red rocks and blue sky is stunning. It is also way less crowded than the main overlooks, so you will have time for lots of photos without feeling rushed.

Pro tip: This is a spiritual space. Be respectful and keep voices down. It is free to visit and park.

Photo Planning Tips

  • Wear solid colors or simple patterns. Stripes and busy prints are hard to photograph against busy landscapes.
  • Avoid the heat of midday (11 AM-3 PM) for the best light. Golden hour (sunrise and sunset) is magical.
  • Bring a portable phone charger. You and your crew will take hundreds of photos, and dead batteries are no fun.
  • Assign one person to be the photographer so everyone gets in shots, not just the photographer.
  • Coordinate matching or complementary outfits before your trip. It makes for cohesive, stunning group photos.
  • Arrive early at popular spots (Schnebly Hill, Cathedral Rock) to beat crowds and get unobstructed shots.
  • Download offline maps of the area. Cell service is spotty in many red rock locations.

Bonus: Sunrise vs Sunset

Sunrise is 5:30-6:00 AM, sunset is 7:00-7:30 PM depending on the season. Sunrise is less crowded but requires an early wake-up. Sunset is more crowded but does not require an alarm. Most bachelorette groups choose sunset, but if your crew is up for it, sunrise at Schnebly Hill is unforgettable.
