Why Breck for a Bachelorette

A few things set Breckenridge apart from the other Rockies ski towns for bachelorette trips. It is genuinely walkable. Main Street is a 6-block stretch of bars, restaurants, and shops that runs right to the base of Peak 9, so the group that skis and the group that brunches can meet up at 3pm without renting a car.

The elevation hits different. Breck is 9,600 feet in town and peaks over 12,000. Take it easy on booze the first night. Your body needs 24 hours to catch up.

Getting There

Fly into Denver (DEN). Breckenridge is about 90 minutes west on I-70, longer in bad weather or Friday afternoon traffic. Epic Mountain Express runs shared shuttles for about $85 per person round trip. A private SUV runs $450 to $600 one way and splits well across 6 to 8 people.

Where to Stay

On-Mountain Condos

A 3 or 4 bedroom condo at Grand Lodge on Peak 7 or One Ski Hill Place puts ski-in ski-out access and a shared hot tub in the same building. $700 to $1,200 per night in peak season.

Town Homes

A standalone home in the Warriors Mark or Peak 8 neighborhood gives the group more space and a private hot tub. $850 to $1,800 per night for 8+ people. Every bachelorette group wants a private hot tub. Book the hot tub before the beds, basically.

Hotel Option

Gravity Haus is the trendy downtown pick with a rooftop hot tub and small gym. Rooms sleep 4 comfortably.

What to Do

Skiing and Boarding

A standard Breck lift ticket runs $200 to $260 per day in peak season. If anyone in the group already has an Epic Pass, they ski free. For a 3 day group trip, the Epic 4-Day Pass ($515) pencils out.

Peak 9 and Peak 8 have the most beginner and intermediate terrain. Peaks 6, 7, and 10 hold the hardest runs. The Freeway terrain park on Peak 8 is a good spot to watch and not actually commit to anything.

Non-Ski Options That Still Feel Like a Ski Trip

Dog sledding at Good Times Adventures. About $180 per person for a 2-hour run. Bachelorette groups love this one. Snowmobiling at the same outfit runs $220 to $280 per person.

Snowshoe tour with Breckenridge Nordic Center. Easy, scenic, about $70 per person rentals included. Good Sunday morning option.

Ice skating at the outdoor rink on Maggie Pond. $20 per person. Photographs beautifully at golden hour.

Spa Day

Blue Sage Spa on Main Street or The Spa at Breckenridge inside Beaver Run are the two best options. Book the bride a 50-minute hot stone massage as a group gift ($180). Everyone else gets a sugar scrub for $95.

Apres and Nightlife

Apres Scene

Apres starts at 3pm and ends when people go home to shower. Start at T-Bar at Peak 8 right off the lifts, then move to Breckenridge Distillery for flights of bourbon ($20) and the elk meatballs ($18).

Dinner

Book 2 of the 3 nights in advance. Hearthstone is the best splurge (bison tenderloin at $68, 1880s Victorian house right on Ski Hill Road). Relish is the go-to for the main bachelorette dinner, with a private room that fits 8 to 12.

Casual night: pizza at Giampietro Pasta and Pizza or the Briar Rose Chophouse if you want old-school steakhouse energy.

Bars That Will Take a Sash-Wearing Group

Cecilia''s has the only real dance floor in town and is the standard bachelorette stop. Downstairs at Eric''s is the dive bar that stays open latest. Burke and Riley''s is the Irish pub on the river, good for a last round.

Sample 4-Night Itinerary

Thursday: Arrive, check in, easy dinner at Giampietro, early night for altitude.

Friday: Ski day (or snowshoe), apres at T-Bar, group dinner at Relish, bar crawl down Main Street.

Saturday: Half day ski, dog sledding in the afternoon, distillery tour, bride dinner at Hearthstone, hot tub and champagne.

Sunday: Spa morning, long lunch at Ember, light apres on the deck somewhere.

Monday: Shuttle to DEN.

Planning Tips

  • Altitude is real. Pack electrolyte packets and drink twice as much water as you normally would on day 1.
  • Lift tickets are cheaper bought online in advance than at the window. Buy at least 7 days out.
  • Assign one person to rent skis for the whole group the night before. Christy Sports will deliver to your condo.
  • If half the group does not ski, book dog sledding or the Ice Castles day trip (in Cripple Creek, about 2 hours away, weekends only) so they have their own main activity.
