Why Rooftops Are the Right Move in Vegas

The clubs don''t really get going until 11 pm. That leaves a four-hour window between dinner and the dance floor that the rooftop scene was made for.

You get sunset photos, you get a controlled tab, and you walk into the club already warmed up instead of cold-starting at midnight. Pick one rooftop for golden hour and one for the after-dinner pour.

The Best Rooftop Bars

Legacy Club at Circa

Best for: 360 views from downtown without Strip pricing | Price: $22 to $30 per cocktail

60 stories up on top of Circa in downtown Vegas. The entrance is lined with 1,000 ounces of real gold and the outdoor terrace has fire pits and the best panoramic view in the city, full stop. Dress code is upscale casual.

Order this: The Legacy Old Fashioned ($24) and the El Pres margarita ($22).

Skyfall Lounge at Delano

Best for: Strip views from the south end with room to dance | Price: $22 to $32 per cocktail

64th floor of the Delano with a 180 degree wall of glass looking up the Strip. DJs start at 9 pm and the small dance floor fills up fast. The bachelorette move is to land at 6:30 pm for sunset, eat in the lounge, and stay through the DJ.

Order this: The Penicillin ($24), bottle service if your group is 8 or more (starts around $500).

Apex Social Club at Palms

Best for: a pool deck rooftop that turns into a club at night | Price: $20 to $28 per cocktail

55th floor at the Palms. Wraparound views, a long pool, and DJs spinning Thursday through Saturday. Dress code is enforced (no sneakers, no athletic wear) so flag that in the group chat.

Order this: Spicy passionfruit margarita ($22) and a bottle of champagne for the bride table.

Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay

Best for: dark, decadent, totally over the top | Price: $20 to $28 per cocktail

63rd floor of Mandalay Bay. The interior is full Moroccan moody temple, but the rooftop terrace is the move. Friday nights have a $30 cover that often includes a free drink. Get there before 10 pm.

Order this: Foundation Old Fashioned ($26) and the cheese board ($32) to soak it up.

Drai''s Rooftop at Cromwell

Best for: a pool club nightclub in the dead center of the Strip | Price: $25 to $35 per cocktail; $40 to $75 cover

11th floor of the Cromwell with the best Strip view of any rooftop because you are right at the Bellagio fountains. Hosts hip-hop heavy DJs and big name residencies. This is the most "Vegas Vegas" of the list.

Order this: Frose pitcher for the table ($85) and bottle service if your group is 6 or more.

Giada Rooftop Patio at Cromwell

Best for: sit-down dinner with a Strip view, then the bar after | Price: $50 to $80 per person for dinner

Same hotel as Drai''s, two floors down, totally different energy. Italian dinner on a glassed-in patio looking right at the Bellagio fountains. Book the 7 pm fountain-side table and walk upstairs to Drai''s after.

Order this: Lemon spaghetti ($28), chicken parm ($42), and split a bottle of prosecco.

108 Drinks at the STRAT

Best for: the photo at the highest bar in the country | Price: $18 to $25 per cocktail plus tower elevator fee

108th floor of the STRAT, technically the highest bar in the United States. Indoor only with floor-to-ceiling glass, so this one is the "we have to see it" stop rather than the place you sit for two hours. Pop up, take photos, get a drink, move on.

Order this: The Strat Spritz ($18). Skip the food.

Planning Tips

  • Pick two rooftops, not five. Sunset spot (Legacy or Drai''s) and after-dinner spot (Skyfall or Apex). Five rooftops in one night becomes a logistics nightmare.
  • Make a free reservation through OpenTable or Resy when the venue offers it, even if it says no reservation required. Walking in with 10 people is a different game than walking in with 2.
  • Dress code is real at the upscale spots. Legacy, Apex, Skyfall, and Foundation Room will turn people away for sneakers or athleisure. Put a one-line dress code in the group chat the morning of.
  • Bottle service makes the math work at 8 or more people. A $500 bottle split eight ways is $63 per person which is two cocktails worth, plus you get the table.
  • The hour before sunset is the photo hour. Look up sunset time the morning of and back-schedule from there. In summer that means a 7:15 pm arrival; in winter, more like 4:45 pm.
