Why Austin Works for a Bachelorette
Austin gives you three completely different days inside one trip. A lake day on Lake Travis or Lake Austin. A walkable patio crawl on Rainey Street. A wild Saturday night on 6th Street. Add a brunch on South Congress and you have a weekend that feels like four trips in one.
The city is bigger than it looks. Plan transportation early. A party bus or sprinter van for the group beats trying to coordinate 4 Ubers at 9 pm.
Where to Stay
Most Austin bachelorette groups split between downtown and East Austin. Each neighborhood has tradeoffs.
Downtown
Stay downtown if your group wants to walk to Rainey Street and 6th Street. The Driskill, the LINE Austin, and the Fairmont all hold groups of 8 to 12 in connecting suites. Expect $300 to $600 per night per room on weekends.
East Austin
Larger Airbnbs and VRBOs sit in East Austin with pools, big yards, and room for 12 to 20. Cheaper per person but you will need transportation for every outing. Budget $4,000 to $9,000 for the weekend on a 6 bedroom rental.
The Activities That Define an Austin Bachelorette
Lake Day on Lake Travis or Lake Austin
The Austin lake day is non-negotiable for most bachelorette groups. Lake Travis has more party energy and the famous Devils Cove raft up. Lake Austin is calmer with skyline views.
A party pontoon for a group of 8 to 14 runs $1,200 to $2,500 for a 4 to 6 hour day with a licensed captain, fuel, Bluetooth sound, a lily pad, and a cooler. Most rentals leave from the Lake Travis marinas like Wakeline or Tide Up. Book 6 to 10 weeks out for peak season.
"Lake Travis with our captain was the best day of the whole weekend. Tip him well and he will play exactly what you want." Reddit
Rainey Street Bar Crawl
Rainey is the walkable bungalow turned bar district. Lucille for giant Jenga and patio games, Container Bar for live music, Bungalow for cocktails, and Banger sausage house when the group needs to eat. Start at 7 pm and move slowly down the street.
6th Street After Dark
6th Street is the bigger party strip. Live music, dance floors, and a crowd that goes until 2 am. Best paired with Rainey, not instead of it. Stack Rainey 7 to 10 pm, then 6th Street 10 pm to last call.
South Congress for Brunch and Shopping
SoCo is the daytime breather. Brunch at Perlas or Cafe No Se, shopping the boutiques, and Instagram photos in front of the I Love You So Much wall. Plan a 3 hour window mid morning on day two or three.
Country Two Step at the White Horse
If your bride wants the Texas experience, the White Horse on the east side has a free country two step lesson on Tuesdays and live music every night. Wear boots.
The 3 Day Sample Itinerary

Budget Breakdown for 10 People
| Item | Cost | Per Person |
|---|---|---|
| Airbnb 6BR for 3 nights | $5,400 | $540 |
| Party boat day with captain | $2,000 | $200 |
| Party bus 4 hours Saturday night | $1,000 | $100 |
| Food and drinks | $3,500 | $350 |
| Brunches and activities | $1,200 | $120 |
| Total per person | $1,310 |
The bride traditionally is covered by the group. If 9 people are splitting the bride share, add about $145 per person to that total.
Transportation That Actually Works
- Book a party bus or sprinter for Saturday night, $200 to $300 per hour with a 4 hour minimum
- For the lake day, the marina is 30 to 40 minutes from downtown, plan Ubers or a van
- Rainey Street is walkable from most downtown hotels, no transport needed
- Avoid scooters in heels, especially after dinner
When to Go
March, April, October, and November are the sweet spots. Temperatures in the 70s and 80s, lake water still swimmable, no extreme heat. Summer Austin is brutal, 100 degrees plus, and the lake gets crowded. December and January are cooler but the lake day disappears.
What to Pack
- Two swimsuits per person for the lake day
- Boots or sneakers for the White Horse and Rainey Street walking
- Cowboy hats are encouraged but not required, the bride should have her own
- A waterproof phone case for the boat day
- SPF 50 even on overcast days, the lake reflects everything
One Thing Most Groups Get Wrong
Trying to stack Rainey Street and 6th Street in the same hour. They are not next to each other and the energy is different. Rainey is patio cocktails. 6th Street is dance floor sweat. Pace your night and treat them as two separate stops with a meal in between.
