Why Asheville for a Bachelor Weekend

Asheville calls itself Beer City USA, and it has the density to back it up. South Slope alone packs close to a dozen breweries into a few walkable blocks. Outside downtown, you've got zip lines, whitewater rafting, and Blue Ridge mountain views. This is a weekend for a group that wants to be outside during the day and in a taproom by early evening, not stuck in a club line at 1am.

Where to Base Yourselves

Book a cabin or house rental just outside downtown, close enough for a 10 to 15 minute rideshare into South Slope, far enough that you're not paying downtown parking rates every night. Groups of 8 to 12 do well in the mountain-view rental houses scattered around the outskirts.

Day and Night: South Slope Brewery Crawl

South Slope is Asheville's brewery district, and it is fully walkable. Start with Burial Beer Co., known for its beer garden and a Tom Selleck mural that has become an unofficial photo spot for every group that comes through. From there, walk to Catawba Brewing for the White Zombie Ale, then Green Man Brewery, one of the city's oldest, housed in a three-story building locals call the Green Mansion. Close it out at Hi-Wire Brewing, which leans into a circus theme and a rotating beer list.

If you'd rather not self-guide it, a brewery tour company will run your group through 3 to 4 stops with transportation included for roughly $60 to $90 per person over 3 to 4 hours.

Daytime Adventure Options

Blue Heron Whitewater

Whitewater rafting on the French Broad River, guided by a crew that has been running this river for over 25 years combined. Good half-day option if your group wants an adrenaline morning before an afternoon of beer.

Navitat Canopy Adventures

About 20 minutes north of downtown in Barnardsville, Navitat runs zip line and canopy tours through a 242-acre wilderness setting with long-range mountain views. It's been featured in Outdoor Magazine and Forbes Travel Guide, and it's consistently one of the top-rated things to do near Asheville.

Axe Throwing

Asheville's original axe throwing spot, Axeville, closed in early 2025, but Valhalla Indoor Axe Throwing has picked up the slack with six lanes and room for groups up to 40, plus shuffleboard and a video game bar if half your group would rather not throw axes.

Planning Tips

  • South Slope breweries get genuinely crowded on weekend evenings. Go earlier in the day if your group wants to actually sit down.
  • Book Blue Heron Whitewater or Navitat for the morning of your busiest day, both wrap up by early afternoon, leaving the evening open for breweries.
  • Rideshare availability in Asheville can be spotty late at night. Have a backup plan if you're not staying within walking distance of downtown.
  • Asheville's elevation and mountain weather can shift fast. Pack a layer even in summer for evenings.
