Not Every Vegas Night Has to Be the Strip

The Arts District, also called 18b, sits just south of downtown, boxed in by Charleston Boulevard, Las Vegas Boulevard, Hoover Avenue, and Commerce Street. It's a fully walkable pocket of the city with more than 30 galleries, nearly 40 restaurants and cafes, and over 15 breweries and bars. If your bachelorette has already done a night on Fremont and a night on the Strip, this is where you send them for something completely different.

The energy here is closer to a cool neighborhood in Austin or Nashville than anything you'd associate with Vegas. No cover charges, no dress code enforcement, no bottle service pressure.

Where to Drink

Velveteen Rabbit

One of the most established cocktail lounges in the district, with a rotating seasonal menu and an interior that leans intimate rather than high-energy. This is the pick if your group wants a proper cocktail and conversation instead of a dance floor.

ReBAR

One of the longest-running bars in the Arts District, sitting right on Main Street. It blends antiques and dive-bar charm into something you will not find anywhere on the Strip. Good first or last stop of the night.

The Silver Stamp

A small, European-style beer bar on Main Street with one of the most carefully curated beer lists in the city. Good option if part of your group wants beer over cocktails.

Where to Eat

SoulBelly BBQ

Texas-style barbecue in the heart of the district, with live music on the outdoor stage most weekends and especially during First Friday. A solid dinner stop before you head to drinks.

Good Pie

One of the busiest food spots in the neighborhood, specializing in Brooklyn, Detroit, Sicilian, and Grandma-style pizza. Expect a line on weekend nights, it is worth the wait.

First Friday

If your trip lines up with the first Friday of the month, build your night around it. First Friday is a free monthly street festival that draws close to 20,000 people for live music, food trucks, and extended gallery and restaurant hours across the whole district. It's the single best night to experience the Arts District if your dates allow for it.

How This Compares to Fremont and the Strip

Fremont Street is loud, cheap, and built for a group photo under the light canopy. The Strip is the big-production version of Vegas nightlife. The Arts District is neither. It is a walk-around, drink-slow, look-at-art kind of night, best used as a change of pace on day two or three of a longer trip rather than your one big night out.

Planning Tips

  • Rideshare from the Strip runs 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. Budget accordingly if you're staying on the Strip and doing this as a day trip.
  • Good Pie and SoulBelly BBQ both get busy on weekend evenings. Go earlier if your group wants to sit down together.
  • Most bars here do not enforce a dress code, so this is a good night to let your group wear something more comfortable than Strip-club attire.
  • Check the First Friday schedule before you book your trip dates if the street festival is a priority for your group.
